VW Typ 82 Kübelwagen

Hi everybody. This is my new project: Italeri kit 312 and Tamiya kit 35304. I've not cut plastic yet, so I will start with some info:

1) Modeler's Special Edition Guide to Kubelwagen - Amperside Publishing. This is EMHO the best source for Kübelwagens. It contains a detailed study of the main features of the vehicle and modifications year by year

I've thinking make the Italeri one with the tarp closed and in whitewash over panzergrau, and the Tamiya one as in the box art, North Africa

Looking forward to seeing progress on this Darío, as I've got the VW family to build. (Schwimmwagen, Kubelwagen, DAK Kubelwagen, & Beetle)

The Tankograd book Wehrmacht Special No 4008 - Kubelwagen Typ 82 has lots of great WW2 photos of all of the above, but I'm not sure if it is still available.

I will be building one of my DAK kubelwagens based on a photo that shows normal tyres on the front wheels and sand balloon tyres on the rear!

I've had one of these kits for years (no longer) but I do not remember it being that color of green. Maybe it is just my monitor. I also built on of them when I was a kit. My favorite part was the tent and radio operator. I just thought those were so cool to add to a kit.

Thanks guys, Roy the horrible green color is due to the black carboard used as background; the actual color is the regular Italeri dark green.

Sides: Italeri one has the doors molded; instructions states that doors can be cut off to display in open position.


I made the wood floor with thin plasticard...

Typ 82's a great little vehicle. Look forward to watching your build Dario.
Not sure if it really matters all that much, but the kit is of a fairly late model Kubel.

Being that the Italeri kit is much older than the Tamiya one, I think it holds up pretty well when compared to it. Of course adding some detail can never hurt. Nice job on the floor.

Thanks guys. Some advances:

Italeri kit has a side front wall deformed, so I use plasticard to fix it.
I have some issues with Tamiya kit, where the "hood" match the ridht side wall, that's the cause of the excesive glue/melted plastic you see in the pic below.



I added some stretched sprue to Italeri rear seat to make the wrinkles: The sprues was too thick, so, I file it, then covered the seat with Milliput and then with Tamiya putty





Tamiya side doors was molded separately, at cost of 4 rounded marks in each inner part of doors; putty and sanding x 16



Italeri tarpaulin was too smooth, so...again, stretched sprue added, then covered with tin foil (not yet glued, it needs rear window and tie downs)

More updates:

Each wheel has his inflating valve stem added (just stretched sprue)


I modified an old P.E. half wingnuts; these parts was located at the engine and stowage lids


Bad picture of a padlock made with plasticard and copper wire


Towing hook ring, also made of copper wire


License plate and Notek rear lght added to Italeri model. On top right of te pic, the white thing is the gas tank, made with balsa and plasticard.
Note the Italeri kit has the engine lid handle vertical instead of horizontal


My home made Punch & Die. I draw the speedometer with Corel then sent it to print in acetate; I cut then with the P&D


The speedometer in place...it-s a little off-center
