Black base colour airbrushed. I thinned the paint with a few drops of water and it sprayed very nicely.

BTW having now shaken the bottles the smell has decreased.

Now the highlights and shadow painting can begin!

I think that the base coat might be a little light for a Panzer uniform. I'll see how it looks with all the shadow colours. I can always airbrush a darker grey over.

I will adjust the large area of highlight on the rear left leg.

Note that the shading is more subtle when viewed normally.

I wasn't happy with the colour of the figure as it was too grey. I painted a small amount of each black shade on to a piece of paper and then compared them to black Vallejo paint.

The Andrea 3rd shadow colour is actual a very dark grey so black paint can be used for the deep shadows.

I airbrushed a thin layer of the darkest shadow colour over the top of my brush painting, as it is only a very thin layer it hasn't affected the surface detail.

Side by side comparision of the base and 3rd shadow colour. The photos were taken using the same settings and light condtions and combined in my photo editing program.



Now to start again! It's all good pratice.

I've painted the flesh, gloves and shirt base colour. The hat needs another layer of field grey.

I'm not that happy with the flesh base colour, so I will soon be making a trip to my local hobby shop to get some different Vallejo colours.

Vallejo medium flesh 860 seems to be a popular flesh base colour in the step-by-steps that I have found online.

Yup, it looks a little yellowish. I use Vallejo 70876 Brown Sand + 70815 Basic Skin, 50/50, for the base color. Then I used them separately for shadows and lights, adding other colors if necessary.

If you like artistic acrilic colors, try white + raw sienna (90/10 or so) as base color.

I've just got back from the hobby shop with a selection of Vallejo flesh colours. I think I will try out the different combinations I've read about, on some unwanted heads, to see what works best.
