So as I do more and more of these I am getting dialed in on what I need to do. I don't look at the screw ups as failures, more just part of the usual process I go through when mastering some task or technique. I feel confident that my next attempt will be more successful. One thing I think I have come to feel about this is that I will skip the red primer layer. It just ends up showing up way more than I'd like. Perhaps in the future I will work with this more but as can be seen here and with the Sdkfz.10 blog- the results are just not where I wish them to be. I will add chips with a sponge or brush to portray any exposed primer, after the green goes on. I also am going to try and decant the hairspray and lacquer and spray them on with the airbrush, as I think I did not have much control on the amount when sprayed straight from the can. I think the major difference on this next attempt will be not to do such a thick and overall white paint coat. Also I am using some Tamiya grey primer from the can to prep it out this time, not flat black, although I may do some pre-shading here and there.
So, here you can see the stripped down model ready, for a second try. I almost like the way it looks now!
It was a bit of a pain, the paint did not just sluff off in some areas, and a few rivets that were added before, which had disappeared after the oven cleaner, needed to be replaced. The oven cleaner also destroyed some of the filling work I had done before but I was able to deal with these issues and a few others in a timely manner and all systems are
! for another attempt. There is a little sanding here and there to be done and perhaps a small fill or two yet but I am excited again after having the less than perfect results before.
