German Neubaufahrzeug [Rheinmetall] ~ Trumpeter # 5528

That clears it up better. I do understand their name 'field grey' isn't correct, it's more of a greenish color. I'm just going off the paint instructions from the kit and what making me ask questions is their grey is light, and I didn't know if the germans switched the grey colors from the early 30's to the 40's or if it's always been a german grey. So from what you said Jamie, they've always used the German grey and Trumpeter should of listed it as that, not field gray and that their color may be too light?

Don't worry about the blue tint, I have no desire to go that route. If I can find enough references and matching colors in the Testors selection I may try the Feuersicherlich Buntfarbenanstrich tricolor scheme, I just need to do more research and searching around. I have no reference books so all I have is the internet.

Looking at the new Schiffer book there is a photo of this No. 1 vehicle. (one I have never seen anywhere else for that matter ;-) )
It does appear to have two colours for the wavy stuff sprayed with a soft edge over a solid colour. I would suggest that the solid colour is the earth yellow colour of the bunt cammo scheme, (I think this is the one)? Or maybe its the pre-1940 scheme of dark grey, with wide bands of dark brown covering about 1/3 of the area.

James, I think that is a three color scheme with green and brown over yellow. My guess would be green outlined in brown over yellow. That is a good pic. I have three of the Neubaufahrzeug kits. I have this one, Cyber Hobby's #2 and Dragon's #3-5. I want to get the other two 3-5 on the market and do the whole lot. I think this one will be the coolest looking one of the lot though especially if done with the pictured scheme.

It is a nice picture, it gives us evidence that there was a soft edge pattern. I kind of like your idea of the green outlined with brown over yellow, I may have to paint that on a index card to see how it looks. I'll keep looking into it, but you're right James, I have plenty of time to think about paint scheme, I need to get this thing assembled!

Here is some progress I've made, all on the chassis. I tell you, this is my first Trumpeter kit, and I am really pleased with the ease of assembly, very straight forward.

Finished up on the front chassis. Now on to the wheel assembly...oh boy. So I'm trying to figure out how to go about this. I'd like to paint the wheels first before permanently attaching them to the assembly. After playing with the parts I think I figured it out as seen on the last photo. I'll paint the two half's of the assembly and wheels then I can put them together with as little gluing as possible. Next round of photo's I'll try to show how I'm going about installing these.

Holy cow- you are flying through this- but that's what I found with mine too- the hardest part is all the wheels that need to be cleaned up and taken care of. Watch your glue around things like vision ports and hatches- -the liquid glue could cause more melting of the plastic than you want and it'll show up as little blips of plastic squished out the edges. Careful.
