I imagine that there could be different types of straps due to different factorys?

James the Aber buckle supplied not being correct is your problem.

I believe something like this is what you're photos show.

Works on same principle as a double "D" ring bike helmet strap.

You could just leave the ice cleats off. Most pictures show them missing and I am sure in the summer months they left them off the tank completely. But if you are doing a factory fresh tank then they probably would be there.
