Mud and dioramas

I'm thinking of making the scene for my Little Willie to have a dirt/muddy look to it, anyone have any good links or suggestions. I have few ideas but Abe any answers in this thread wil help others that come along as well.

I usually use the first ..."thing" I found at the reach of my hands; for instance:
* Tamiya putty with or without fine sand, then painted with acrilic (mixed with Tamiya Flat Base for dry mud)
* Fine sand and pigments, glued with acrilic medium (matt or not, depends if I want dry or fresh mud) Maybe mixed with pigments or just painted with acrilic.

There is a product out there called "Easy Mud". I've never used it but I seen it used on some of the other sites and it looks great. It is made by a company in S. Korea called Marutechnics and you can order direct from their site. Here are a couple of reviews,
