It appears that Ron's got some baggage on this issue:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/me ... a+questionThe linked thread features pretty much everything you need to know on this issue (plus some pretty entertaining verbal abuse). It's ironic that in Dennis' case, the images are from the public archive - I don't know how German law works, but if these were NARA or any US Government-owned photo there would be no issue of copyright. But as Pat Stansell is a publisher (Ampersand) this is obviously a touchy issue for him across the board, particularly since the previous week an individual had offered to send a scanned copy of an entire issue of
Allied-Axis to someone else in the same discussion group.
Interestingly, Ron's post which I've linked to references an image in a Waldemar Trojca book. Trojca himself is infamous for publishing photos for which he doesn't even hold the copyright, let alone remunerates the individuals he stole them from.
Unfortunately Ron's recent rant only makes him look like a greedy ass; and it's precisely attitudes like his which are the reason that the people with vast photo collections (to wit - Stefan de Meyer, Jurgen Wilhelm, etc.) rarely ever share images from their collections with anyone.
