Out of the box build review of IBG Models 1/35 German Small Field Kitchen Hf.14.



After my research on the German field kitchens of WW2, for my Tamiya kit, I have been looking forward to this kit being released. Until now, as far as I am aware, the only 1/35 small field kitchen available was the Plusmodel resin kit.

The kit comes in a cardboard box, and contains a sealed bag with a single sprue with 48 parts, CAD instruction booklet and a small decal sheet.

Both sides of the sprue.




The details on the parts are crisply molded and there is only a fine mold seam to remove.

I hope to build the kitchen and update this review over the next couple of days. I have spotted a couple of accuracy issues already, that I will point out as the build progresses.

Looks simple enough. My only gripe would have been since they made this a horse drawn version it should have come with the caisson. Looking forward to your build.

Yes it is a simple kit, ideal for a weekend build.

I've glued the main body now, will update tomorrow. Yes, it would have been nice if it included the limber, but that will be a future scratch build project!

Progress so far on the main body. Care is needed when cleaning up the parts to ensure correct alignment of the body. Some of the sprue attachment points are quite thick.
There are locating strips on the parts to help with the alignment. Generally the parts fit well, but there are a couple of gaps that will require filling.

I haven't glued the top of the kitchen yet, so I can paint and add the cooking pot later.











Although there are locating pins on the inside of the chimney, the parts can move so care is needed when aligning the two halves. The top of the chimney is a little on the thick side, but it can be drilled out.


I plan to work on the chassis tomorrow.

Thanks Roy. I've cut out the chassis parts, but I haven't had enough time to clean them up.

I will be busy now until the end of next week, but I will update as soon as I can.
